Projex Quantity Surveying

Homeowners and self builders

Know what your build should cost before you commit.

Builders' quotes are hard to compare and easy to get wrong. We price your drawings, help you choose a builder at a fair price, put a proper contract in place and check every payment, so you only pay for what has been built.

Extensions, renovations, conversions, new homes and work to listed buildings.

How it works

How we help, step by step.

Use us for one step or all six. Most people start with a budget estimate and decide from there.

  1. STEP 1

    Set a realistic budget

From sketches or planning drawings we estimate what the build should cost, including fees, service connections, contingency and VAT where it applies.

  2. STEP 2

    Price the drawings properly

Once the design is ready we turn it into a schedule of works, so every builder prices exactly the same job.

  3. STEP 3

    Compare quotes like for like

We check each quote for gaps, exclusions and provisional sums, then tell you which offers the best value, not just the lowest price.

  4. STEP 4

    Choose the right contract

A JCT homeowner or minor works contract, set up with clear payment stages, a programme and the protections you need.

  5. STEP 5

    Check every payment

During the build we value the work before you pay, price any changes fairly and keep a running forecast of the final cost.

  6. STEP 6

    Settle the final account

At the end we agree the final account with your builder, so you pay for what was built and nothing more.

Self builders

Managing the build yourself? We can be your commercial team.

Running your own build means buying trades and materials package by package. We help you set a budget for each package, compare trade quotes, track costs against the budget and keep spending in step with your lender's stage releases.

  • A budget and cost plan for every package
  • Trade and supplier quotes compared side by side
  • Monthly cost tracking against the budget
  • Invoices checked before you pay them

Questions

Common questions from homeowners

Do I need a quantity surveyor for an extension?

Not always. For a small, simple job with a builder you trust, a clear contract may be enough. For larger extensions, new homes, listed buildings or anything unusual, a QS can save you more than the fee through better prices and fewer disputes.

Can you work with my architect or designer?

Yes. We work alongside architects and designers, pricing the design as it develops, so you know where you stand before the quotes come in.

Can you check a quote I've already had?

Yes. Send it to us with the drawings and we'll tell you what's included, what's missing and whether the price looks right.

What does it cost?

It depends on the size of the job and how much help you need, from a single budget estimate to support all the way to the final account. Send us your drawings and we'll quote a fixed fee within one working day. We always agree the fee in writing before we start.

Tell us about your build.

Send your drawings, or a quote you've already had, and we'll come back with what we'd suggest and a fee.
